This buckle engraving can be done using acid etching with hand engraved combinations. the fine and deep edges shows it was etched using acid & the sun, flower, & leaf design shows it was tool bits (burin) engraved. Thanks for sharing. First time I have seen this kind of work & its amazing.

I think I may have confused some people with my last post on the USRL belt buckle.  I used the abbreviation of RL but meant to say that belt buckle was a Ralph Lauren designer production piece.  I'm not even sure the original was Philippines made, as the design could have been done on the computer or engraved by a local artisan and then cast.  What you saw two posts above was a cast belt buckle offered for one of Ralph Lauren's production lines.  I saw it on the Ebay completed auctions.

Anyone who knows much about Ralph Lauren knows that he has an extensive clothing archive and this piece was likely designed based on a couple of original PI buckles from his archive or photos that the staff found online, possibly from this forum even.  It's definitely a 1940's design and for those who don't know Ralph Lauren started his company in 1967, so hence the 1967 buckle date.  This is just the first time I've seen a Philippines type belt buckle recreated for the masses and I'm guessing it didn't do very well, just a guess.  Price tag was $98.00 originally and Ebay seller started it at $44.99 and it didn't sell.  It's definitely interesting to see and it makes sense that somebody with an eye for detail like Ralph Lauren, or his staff, would see the cool or potential in recreating a "fantasy" PI buckle for the consumer.

Edit to the above post.  I jumped the gun when I thought the above buckles were going to be for sale as I just spoke with the owner an he's planning to keep them.  Anyhow, the more pics for this thread the better!

These landed yesterday. Three P.I. buckles direct from the family. From post #671, there were three & a napkin ring on FB Market from the same seller, but they had already sold. The really nice lady I bought these from said. "I didn't know these were so popular". But, I got her last three. I asked her to send me info ab out her husband and his career. USNA Class of '65. Concluded his career as a Captain. Daughter grad from USNA as well, Class of '91 and ended up as a Rear Admiral. Keeping history alive as I am fortunate to have info on both of these veterans.

Hit the road and ran down to the Sacramento Antique Street Fair before travel prices get too crazy. Always good to go and meet my fellow militaria collectors, but buying was pretty light. HOWEVER ... I did find one buckle. WESTERN PACIFIC , USN , L.S. CRITES. Smaller than the standard rectangle buckles, with really nice engraving.  Still having fun.

I was searching around online and came across this photo from a 2017 Invaluable.com auction with a 1945 Philippines belt buckle.  I believe this PI buckle may have been broken out from this lot by the purchaser and sold on Ebay sometime after 2017.  It seems familiar though I don't recall having a photo of it saved.

My mistake, as I guess this buckle did sell on Ebay years back.  This picture comes from Worthpoint.

easterneagle87 -- Thank you Ben for posting all the buckles this past month and keeping this topic active! Congratulations on winning Russ's Westpac 65 buckle. I suspected I was bidding against you.  Just wanted to point out that Russ's buckle was engraved in Hong Kong not in the Philippines.  As an aside, below is a picture of Hong Kong Liberty Cuff I saw on ebay.  I haven't been very lucky finding Philippine buckles this year.  I did see, but didn't acquire, this fishing themed one with "Bass" engraved on it that looks like it might have been made in the Philippines.

I was thinking the same thing too that the WestPac buckle was HK engraved. Thanks for the confirmation. I have another one that will coming that I think will be in the boat. I'll post pics when it touches down. Keep posting my friends, this has been enjoyable!

OK, so I didn't get this buckle. It is a bit of a relief as I know now I'm not losing my mind. That is sure to come later. The seller had this one and the Patron Sixty.  Congrats to who ever got this one! The hunt continues!

With a bunch of emails back and forth, this finally touched down from FLA to Cali. I believe it says, "Gardner", Culinary Specialist. Confirming w/ Bill @ Philippinebuckles that it is Hong Kong carved. Sure has that look.
