Cobra 6 Actual Posted January 24, 2022 Share #630 Posted January 24, 2022 Thanks, Salvage Sailor. The buckle looks like a reasonably faithful copy of the patch’s design.
easterneagle87 Posted January 25, 2022 Share #631 Posted January 25, 2022 Banner day today for buckles and I'll add to the above COMSUBGRU 7 as well! COMSUBGRU 7 came from Mark @ Falls Creek Collectibles, great to work with by the way! The USS Midway came from FCC as well. As a Desert Shield/Storm vet, this was a nice addition not the buckles, but also to the patches I have acquires for that ship as well. As a double bonus, the Midway is moored down in Alameda which is only about 3 hours away from me and I've had a chance to do the tour. The Aviation's Boatswains Mate was a late night ebay find where I was out fishing, tossed a bid a bid at it and the seller hit it like a bass would take a plug. It's a simple buckle that's real heavy in the hand.
easterneagle87 Posted January 25, 2022 Share #632 Posted January 25, 2022 The system crashed before I could post the fourth buckle, USS Los Angeles SSN-688 This was the second buckle I had seen. I placed a bid on the first one and missed out when a buyer did a BIN. When this second buckle popped up, I contacted the seller and asked if the sale had not gone through. They said it had, but this was an additional buckle he had. I bid and won. This has been fun, but one of these days I'm going to have to curb my enthusiasm. The hunt goes on! vforvictory1945 Posted January 31, 2022 Share #635 Posted January 31, 2022 Here are some pictures from Ebay from a grouping I purchased today; thanks to Easterneagle87 for the heads up. The Philippine Islands header along with 1944 date, Leyte location, USN aviator wings and grouping with the Fertile Myrtle nose art sealed the deal for this buckle lot. Here's the listing info from the seller: The buckle is beautifully engraved: PHILIPPINE ISLANDS, NOVEMBER 1944, W.S. KLINE, LEYTE. (Leyte, an island in the E. Central Philippines; focal point of the U.S. invasion of the Philippines in 1944.) Also included are a couple of photos of Lieutenant Commander William Seaman Kline, an Advanced Training Unit parking permit card from N.A.S. BANANA RIVER, a Driver’s Permit from Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and a letter dated Sept. 23, 1944 written by M.J. Nelson, Navigator U.S.S.P 45381. Belt buckle measures: 2-1/2” long x 1-3/8” high. PhilippineBuckles Posted February 4, 2022 Author Share #643 Posted February 4, 2022 The edge design on the Harley Buckle above is uncommon but one of several alternative border engraving patterns to the standard chevrons. Here are 5 examples, many, maybe all of these, have been posted before. No doubt in my mind that they are Philippine Buckles.
