Try Saddler Jonathan D. Waring, Supply Co/355th Inf, 178th Bde.

That's amazing! Thank you both I didn't think I would ever find him. I've been searching for the original owner for at least 3 years by looking through all the WW1 89th division unit histories I could find online.

Antique mall is asking $145. It is outside my collecting area so I don't know if the price is right. It looks good to me.

Looks good to me in the pics and I would take it at that price if I had found it.

I was just gonna say it looked more like K,J. than F.J.

There are no doughboys with the initials F.J. in the 338th MG, but there is one match with K. J. - Wagoner Kenneth P. Johnston in HQ Co.

I just looked up Wagoner Kenneth P. Johnston on Fold3 and his serial number is 2850284. It's difficult to see in the picture but that sure looks to me like the number stamped under the initials.

It sure looks like 2850284 to me too.  I think that's the guy.

His listed address in the roster is 821 Curfew St., St. Paul, MN.

Looks like urban renewal took the house -- that address turns up a parking lot/newer apartment complex!

Is "Wagoner" his trade or his 1st name?

During the CW my Great Grandfather was a Wagoner (so listed on CW documents of his from NARA) and he hauled HQ items for US Grant and his staff at the Battle of Look Out Mountain.  Therefore as still in WWI we had horses and wagons most likely Wagoner was still a duty description.  Also at one time I owned a Railroad Construction Time Sheets for 1870's or 80's building a RR Trestle over a river gorge and it had Wagoners on it who got extra pay for using their own horses and equipment.  Richard

I am packing up my collection preparing for a move so figured it was a good time to take some photos. I respectfully submit my painted helmets to the thread;
