That is certainly an interesting hat she has.  That is a hat on her head, isn't it?  I could be wrong, but don't think its an issue item.

Hi Rene,

Do you have any info on this photo?  As I'm sure I've mentioned before, I have my Dad's M1917A1 that he sent home when he was issued an M1.  That is Dad in my profile picture wearing the helmet.  I've been trying for years to find out when his unit switched helmets.  I seem to recall him saying it was after they arrived in Hawaii in early 1942.  I know that they were issued a lot of new equipment in the States before shipping over, but can't find reference to helmets.  It certainly didn't happen as in this photo in his case.

Hi Mikie, unfortunately I don't have any further info about this photo but I agree that it looks somewhat 'staged'.

Here are a couple of pictures featuring M1 helmets my Dad took during the battle of Okinawa, 1945.  He bought the camera at a police sale of confiscated items taken from Japanese internees. He said he sent many rolls of film back to the folks at home, but this is the only roll that got back to them.  So the original prints of these blurry old shots are some of my prize possessions.   Sorry the quality is so bad.

US Soldiers utilize a captured German MG 151/20 Drilling Anti-Aircraft Gun at the Bridgehead in Remagen Germany - March 1945

The German MG 151/20 Drilling combined three MG 151 20mm cannons into one gun mount.
The MG 151/20 was a German 20mm aircraft-mounted autocannon produced by Waffenfabrik Mauser, as the Luftwaffe transitioned to 30mm cannons later in WW2, extra MG 151’s were made available for Anti-Aircraft gun mounts.
