What is that thing on the front of the tank that the soldier is standing on?  Any idea what it is?

I believe the original Culin hedgerow cutter was a more pronged affair:

Thanks, Rene! I probably would have recognised it in your picture, but the one in the earlier picture looks quite different. I'll check out the links tonight.

Tanker helmet in Action Cassino area Italy 1943, Major. Andrew R. Cheek  C.O. of 760th Tank Battalion in his Command Tank. he's passing one of his Tanks that has been destroyed  little earlier.

T-3 Joseph A Tomaszewski from Connecticut. He served in the Forward Echelon of the 143rd Armored Signal Company, 3rd Armored Division. This photo was taken in Stolberg, Germany. March 1945. Very proud to have Joe's Ike jacket.
