cplnorton Posted December 29, 2018 Author Share #31 Posted December 29, 2018 Special Weapons Group. Any idea what that means he did? I think like the Boys Anti tank rifle or bazookaman, or mortars when I think Special Weapons. Oh and he had 3 stars on his Asiantic Pacific Ribbon and one star on his PUC. I sort of figured Bougainville and Okinawa. But wasn't sure on the 3rd Star.
Bob Hudson Posted December 29, 2018 Share #32 Posted December 29, 2018 He came to the 3rd too late for Guadalcanal, but he went where they went for the rest of the war. found this online: "a special weapons group, made up of one battery each of Browning machine guns, Oerlikon 20mm cannon, and Bofors 40mm cannon." Haven't found his MOS is the muster rolls yet, but did find this
Bob Hudson Posted December 29, 2018 Share #33 Posted December 29, 2018 His MOS was 527 which I believe had to do with ranging for the anti-aircraft guns

Haven't found his MOS is the muster rolls yet, but did find this sch.jpg WOW! He was late by 1 hour & 15 minutes coming back from leave/liberty and he got a deck court and was sentenced to 10 days in the brig on "p[ss & punk" the Naval/USMC term for bread & water! That was one heck of a punishment. There must have been other stuff going on. Great group! Rest in Peace SSgt Schaffenacker.

Garandomatic Posted January 23, 2019 Share #37 Posted January 23, 2019 Really cool. The whole thing. I especially like seeing his apron, but if he'd lived to be an old man, they'd have buried him in it.
BEAST Posted August 8, 2022 Share #38 Posted August 8, 2022 An amazing group! I missed seeing this post when you first posted it. If you are wondering, the "C" on his high school sweater are from Central High School. Both my parents attended there.
