DM1975 Posted November 16, 2007 #52 Posted November 16, 2007 Nice collection Bugme. Guess I will add one too.
gwb123 Posted November 18, 2007 #53 Posted November 18, 2007 This is a family heirloom that came from my grandfather's house in Central PA. The red 28th ID is not painted on the front, but on the side. I am told by the 28TH DIV museum that this was typical for post WWI parades, as the division ID would be facing the reviewing stand. I can't swear it was used in WWI, but it has a layer of mud and dirt that is embedded into the paint. I am having a bit of trouble nailing down who in family or who in the town may have worn it. See the tread: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/ind...amp;#entry75981 Marked with ZD 75 near seam.
camelgreen44 Posted November 19, 2007 #56 Posted November 19, 2007 90 div ( Texas Oklahoma) attched to 3rd Army.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #57 Posted November 20, 2007 Here is one of my painted helmets. From one of the National Guard Divisions from this area. This was picked up in a collection I purchased some time ago. What I like about is the sand finish was smoothed out so the patch can be painted on the front. 34th Infantry Division.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #58 Posted November 20, 2007 Here is a different camo I picked up some time ago. It has been described as a Z pattern camo. Has anyone else scene this type of camo.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #59 Posted November 20, 2007 This is my only 1st Infantry Division painted helmet. It looks right to me but a fellow collector friend states that if the patch is OD it is not correct. Should have a kaki patch. Is this true?
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #60 Posted November 20, 2007 This is a very small 27th ID patch on the front of this helmet. It rests on my bomb in the basement.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #61 Posted November 20, 2007 This 92nd ID helmet I also have had for some time. I have not seen another one.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #62 Posted November 20, 2007 This 35th ID helmet's unit has not been IDed by me yet. The lower right 1/4 is green the rest is yellow. Any help would be appreciated. Bought from the 36th guy a number of years ago. Right Mark.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #63 Posted November 20, 2007 This 28th ID helmet has the bloody bucket on both sides.
Bones Posted November 20, 2007 #64 Posted November 20, 2007 This 8th ID painted helmet is also the only one I have scene. This came with the collection I purchased some time ago. Very thinnly painted. The paint from the helmet shows through.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #65 Posted November 21, 2007 This is one of my best helmets. Came in a grouping with the uniform and painted gas mask bag with the same symbols as this helmet. An engineer enlisted collar device is punched through the front. The wearers left side has a white spade and the right side has the 80th ID patch.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #67 Posted November 21, 2007 Right side. This came from one of the best garage sales I have ever been to.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #68 Posted November 21, 2007 This 78th ID helmet I have also had for some time. Must have hung on a wall or was a lamp shade.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #69 Posted November 21, 2007 This helmet also came with a uniform. All with French made insignia. Purchased at an Antique show in the big city.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #70 Posted November 21, 2007 This helmet also came from the garage sale I mentioned earlier. Kind of dark but still a nice 30th ID.
Bones Posted November 21, 2007 #71 Posted November 21, 2007 Last one for tonight. Do I kill every thread I replay to? This is a very dark 7th ID. Purchased at the same garage sale.
shan8454 Posted November 22, 2007 #72 Posted November 22, 2007 Here is the one and only that I have in my collection.
SI Gordon Posted November 22, 2007 #74 Posted November 22, 2007 Here is my small contribution Unknown unit, Trench Mortar Helmet
Bones Posted November 22, 2007 #75 Posted November 22, 2007 Thanks for the comments and submissions. Here are some of my 26th ID helmets. The majority of these I have traded for. The first one is of the 101st Infantry Regiment of the 26th ID.
