Here's 2 from the 20th SOS. The Green Hornets.

These came from a grouping that belonged to USAF Major General Bruce L Fister. (RET)

He retired in 1996 so they are at least that old.

Former CO of the 20th SOS.

I don’t really collect these but do have a couple… here’s one that I’m not familiar with.  There’s one on ebay now with what seems like a ridiculous price.

Any thoughts on this one.. it’s numbered if that's any help, no idea of how many were struck.

Thanks!

digi-shots-I have a friend who was active in the USSF in that time period.

He used to talk about going to Africa. I will see him this Sunday and ask if he is familiar with FLINT LOCK.

Mean while, here are two more Special challenge coins.

Hello to all.

Still dealing with the aftermath of the recent East Coast snow storm/blizzard/nor'easter.

Just obtained this beauty and awaiting it's arrival.

I was wondering if there is any way to date challenge coins?

This one is marked (c)JLR (c) DKP on the front and is numbered 0124 on edge.

Probably not but I thought I would give it a try.

Yes it is.

Another DKP coin I have has the DKP, serial number, and phone number on the edge.

Is that a telephone number to the right of the base on Miss Liberty?

Thanks e19.

Here's another coin:

From what information I could find these were foreign nationals, mostly former Columbian soldiers, recruited by Erik Prince.

Prince was hired by the crown prince of Abu Dhabi circa 2010.

Research update.

According to this website about 173rd Airborne Brigade Challenge coins, http://www.173rdairborne.com/coins.htm ,this coin was available at the 82nd Airborne museum in the early 1980's.

A good website for 173rd coins.

Is this only for old challenge coins or can I post a new one?

This appears to be a Navy challenge coin from 1968.

Not in hand yet but when it is I will check the edge for makers marks and / or numbers.

I actually prefer them to have some miles on them.

And I would never think to clean them, either.

Here's mine...will this do?

Never caught without it, but always somehow still found a way to drink with it.
