peterson45 Posted October 2, 2011 #26 Posted October 2, 2011 you would hope though that to any collector that the liner just screams "does not belong"
HoovieDude Posted October 2, 2011 #27 Posted October 2, 2011 you would hope though that to any collector that the liner just screams "does not belong" Truth. Heck, I knew that before I started to dive into the deep end of the collecting pool.

Justin Posted October 2, 2011 #29 Posted October 2, 2011 What in the heck???? http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-101st-Airborn...=item336ca2e859 http://www.ebay.com/itm/WWII-101st-Airborn...=item4aaf36e2d3 Who are these bidders, and why do people like this have that much money??? Justin Well I guess I was wrong about people not falling for this crap. I don't understand how people can throw around this kind of money on stuff they're not sure is original or not.
HoovieDude Posted October 2, 2011 #30 Posted October 2, 2011 What in the heck???? Who are these bidders, and why do people like this have that much money??? It is frustrating to see, especially when it comes to something legit I am trying to sell and can't. But people will drop hard money on crap. I should've kept the repop jump suit I just sold and listed it as real
Justin Posted October 2, 2011 #31 Posted October 2, 2011 It is frustrating to see, especially when it comes to something legit I am trying to sell and can't. But people will drop hard money on crap. Many times I've seen original WW2 painted helmets that don't sell, a number of times from people here, then people spend thousands on fakes. :pinch:
mpguy80/08 Posted October 2, 2011 #32 Posted October 2, 2011 Dead give aways on the helmet are the suspension and the nape strap buckle at the rear inside of the liner... Definitely VN era or later on the liner. The color on the shirts look a little off... are they supposed to be khaki shirts or wools? I'm not even going any farther on this bunch... wouldn't touch it with a 10 foot pole... Wayne
ken88 Posted October 2, 2011 Author #33 Posted October 2, 2011 Many times I've seen original WW2 painted helmets that don't sell, a number of times from people here, then people spend thousands on fakes. :pinch: It's become totally absurd. I have an original Luftwaffe helmet that doesn't sell for like 350$. Those aren't collectors bidding on those items. Just fools thinking that they will be able to sell them for much more once they've got them. I tried to score a post war airborne helmet the other day for 200$, it went all the way up to 350$. Unbelievable. Perhaps those fools are way to proud to admit that they can't win something, so they rather spend big bucks and perhaps even owe someone some money instead of using their mind and putting their pride aside for a moment. Those ain't bargains no more man. How can you possibly build up a nice collection if you have to spend so much on one item, that turns out to be fake in the end??? If it were real, okay, but no... You can build the very same reproduction jacket for 1/3 of the price or even less.
MattS Posted October 3, 2011 #34 Posted October 3, 2011 I tried to give convey my concerns to the seller and received the same standard reply, "In addition to most of the pieces being war dated and ID'd, the grouping was purchased at a Very well respected Firearms & Militaria auction that we've worked with numerous times, and we trust their experts. Thanks". I suggested they re-examine who they consider 'experts'. I just saw the outrageous bids on the field jacket and jump jacket. Who bids that kind of money on ANY item with only one or two photos in the listing? Shouldn't that be a tip-off that the seller is hiding something?
canadian bacon Posted October 3, 2011 #35 Posted October 3, 2011 well ive reported it as fake hopefully it gets pulled cheers michael
manayunkman Posted October 3, 2011 #36 Posted October 3, 2011 well ive reported it as fake hopefully it gets pulled cheers michael Good for you. We all need to report guys not just a couple of us. It only takes a couple of minutes to do this and maybe we can stop them. It is up to the community to bring this to the attention of ebay. Anybody on Trigger Time can generate some support ? M
beezman Posted October 3, 2011 #37 Posted October 3, 2011 I tried to report the item, but the pop-up menu does not have the correct option for fake items. How did you report it? He also has interesting feedback: Fake M42 paratrooper jacket, do not want to refund, very rude communication Buyer:Member id milspec.watches Nov-09-10 11:50 Reply by w.holdings (Nov-09-10 12:03): Authenticated by Major Auction. ken88 Posted October 3, 2011 Author #38 Posted October 3, 2011 WWII -508th Airborne- US Army Paratrooper's Jump Jacket (#320597705202) US $1,484.99[/i]!!!! For a fake :w00t: If you check out his shop you'll notice that he sells all kinds of vintage products. A lot of them for rockers. If I'm not mistaking he mentioned something as 'cool for bikers' as for the paratrooper items. Very authentic He's just a fraud. Too bad novices don't smell the sh** in his auctions and bid away like that. People decide what they do with their money, but if a novice bids, another one will assume it's good, especially if the price continues to grow. Result: big money for a piece of cr*p.

History Man Posted October 4, 2011 #41 Posted October 4, 2011 you are right about the interesting feedback. i scanned through some of it and it seems they blame everything on the buyer. the seller (w. holdings) sounds and acts like scam artists and theives.  Philip
Austin R Posted October 5, 2011 #42 Posted October 5, 2011 I couldn't find anything about a Jay Smith in the 502nd, but he is selling 101st stuff on another website http://oldhats.net/wwii-101st-airborne502n...aki-hat-wpatch/ http://oldhats.net/wwii-1944-101st-airborn...orm-hat-wpatch/ + Some foreign fakes like this http://oldhats.net/rare-wwii-italian-army-...-hatcap-wpatch/

HoovieDude Posted October 6, 2011 #45 Posted October 6, 2011 Holy Heyzeus :pinch: That POS helmet sold for $1500!!! Although, I get the feeling there were some shill/puppet account bids going on. A couple of the low feedback, 0 feedback bidders have a 100% of their bidding history on this. Either shills or complete idiots to bid that high. And to think, a fixed bail with hawley I put up on ebay didn't sell but pure fantasy crap does
Justin Posted October 6, 2011 #46 Posted October 6, 2011 I'm at a lose for words on the selling price of the helmet.........................................................................
OD MAN Posted October 6, 2011 #47 Posted October 6, 2011 Please tell me there is some sort of conspiracy going on here... I am dizzy just thinking about how stupid some people are. Justin
mdk014 Posted October 6, 2011 #48 Posted October 6, 2011 Wow. I was planning on bidding on the helmet when it was at $90 and give it to my kid for christmas to play around in. $1525! Stunned.
MattS Posted October 6, 2011 #49 Posted October 6, 2011 Some idiot just blew $1525 on a reproduction helmet that ATF sells for 1/10th of that. Wow. http://www.atthefrontshop.com/ProductDetai...ctCode=USHH506E
