Hi guys,

Can anyone tell me if there is a website where i can find out what DUIs look like for certain units? Im looking for the DUIs for the 91st Infantry Division but at the moment i dont know what any of them look like. Any help much appreciated, Jon.

Hi, Jon,

The following website has the 1945 order of battle for the 91st Inf Div in Italy, but no DIs: http://www.milhist.n...91infdivus.html

Shelby Stanton's Order of Battle WWII has line drawings of the three infantry regiments (361, 362, 363), and you may be able to get the FA, Engr, Ord, etc. unit DIs by googling the individual units listed in the above website. Otherwise, contact me after the New Year at [email protected], and I will send you some admittedly poor (150 dpi) scans of the division's WW2 insignia. I'm afraid I can't help you on some of the postwar DIs since I don't collect that era.

fyi - A number of these pieces were made for collectors and never worn by troops. Genuine insignia are the 601st (a very scarce piece!), 608th and 610th TD Bns. The DI shown for the 602nd TD is actually that of the 142nd Armor. A similar design, embroidered in DI size and roughly half the size of the pocket patch of the 142nd Armor, was worn by the 802nd TD Bn during WW2. The WW2 DI of the 603rd TD was actually a more rectangular shield; the design shown may have been the approved design (shown in Sawicki's Tank Bn book) but was never made into a DI while the unit was active. The DI shown for the 605th TD was also made for collectors; the original being the same design but made of sterling with a deeper transparent red enamel. The WW2 second variant DI of the 612th TD was roughly similar to the piece shown, but was embroidered in a spade-shape shield (the first variant was an embroidered triangle featuring a lightning bolt).

fyi - A number of these pieces were made for collectors and never worn by troops. Genuine insignia are the 643rd and 644th TD Bns. The 640th did wear a similar design, but the WW2 piece was made of plastic.

Due to the shortage of metals in WW II, some DIs were embroidered, as were some in the Korean War.

Top Row, L-R: 801st TD Bn; 802nd TD Bn; 160th Inf (KW)
Bottom Row, L-R: 751st MP Bn; 8225th WAC Bn (KW); 6th ACR

69th Infantry Regiment (New York National Guard)

This is a pre-/early-war pin-back example and is not hallmarked. Unfortunately, none of the pictures I took of the reverse side came out, so you'll just have to take my word on it ;)

You can read more about the crest and DUI here.

Interesting fact: The 1st Battalion, 69th Infantry Regiment is the only infantry unit in the entire United States Army which is permitted to use green as the face color of its crest.

240th Quartermaster Battalion (Clutchback). No hallmark, except V-21. Pretty modern. Here's TIOH link for this unit.

1st Bn, 67th CA. Redesignated 67th AAA Gun Bn in May 44. Much more accurate with a good reference book.

Here's a pretty rare bird. Just before he gave it to me, the vet repainted the yellow, the bolt and the bn numerals.
