Marty, I have noticed of the last 10 years or so that a crop of NS Meyer restrikes does not have the NS Meyer hallmark. There are some restrikes where the reproduction artists tried to grind down the hallmark. Oftentimes, this left some tell-tale indications of alterations, depending on the skill.  Some were done (probably) with a Dremel tool and maybe some sandpaper, while others were more skillfully done. Oftentimes you will find the non-NS-Meyer hallmarked restrikes with a fantasy hallmark (like AECo) that has been added in its stead.  Other times (like these) there will be no obvious signs of a ground down hallmark.  I suspect that whoever commissioned the NS Meyer wings-- and there have been many waves of these over the decades-- simply asked that they not be hallmarked.  It is just my guess.   HeWhoShallNotBeNamed once told me that NS Meyer did not actually manufacture its wings but rather had multiple wholesale "jobbers" make them. The hallmarks were added at various times and in different configurations during the manufacturing/retail processes, which is why there are so many variations in the hallmarks. I have no idea if that is true or not, but it seems reasonable.   Ironically, I suspect that in about 100 years or so, many of these reproductions will be collectible in their own right!

Nice set and research. There was a point in time where local news would print stories about local boys and girls in the military. Johnny Jones a 1978 graduate of local high school is in basic, after completion he will go to AIT at Ft. Xxx. Pvt. Jones completed AIT  and will be reporting to Camp Shicklegruber in Germany for a two year assignment with the 999 FA battalion. Johnny jones was promoted to Corporal, etc, etc, etc. It was a different world then.

Yah, it wasn’t meant to be as close as possible, and trust me when I say I know the shape isn’t there. Like I said above. I plan on scanning an original and touching it up with a software to create a virtual model which I can then turn into a virtual STL file and 3D print it. That is the goals for the next iteration. This was really a test for myself to see if I even had the capability to do it myself. And yes, I agree with Mickey, I wasn’t about to go ruining a nice ww2 era high pressure liner, or even a decent post war one. It’s just not worth it in that sense.this is just the beginning of this thread. There will likely be pages and pages full of work and research and trials and errors out into this till I get something that can be turned into a solid replica Tagt is also still usable and durable for field use. My next idea is to do one like the ww2 gear ones. If you look Tagt up and read about it you will see that there’s are quite honestly some of the best looking ones, but they are completely made of plastic and have no fabric. They also made a mold if an original and use a high pressure plastic mold to create there’s and they dye the plastic to look the correct color so if it was painted the paint wouldn’t chip off and reveal the plastic. Plus 3D printing has gotten good enough to this point that it can create solid structures and even mimic the fabric texture. Okise K’ll be able to scan it to get the rough shape and texture so that I can put it into a software, smooth out the rough edges and modify the shape slightly since the scan only gets a rough idea of the object. Anyways sorry to ramble. Hopefully ya’ll will stick around and check in every once in a while. And hopefully down the road I can start to market these as an alternate to more expensive replicas.
