Right you are JrBfloNY on the design.   Here is what I do believe was the very first separate infantry brigade activated with a new shoulder sleeve insignia, August 1962, patch comes out in December 1962 I believe, here using the early brigade design.   The 60s Flat Edge type.

So basically there's no evidence of them wearing the patch in combat in 1944-45, which is what I was looking for. I have seen period photographs & uniforms of the 15th Cavalry Recon Group MECz, 17th Squadron, 3rd Cav, 6th, 113th, 106th, 11th, & 4th indicative of use during combat, even in the MTO & ITALIA by the 91st CRS but I've naught seen any from the 2nd, 14th, 16th CGM or it's second Squadron of 19th CRS, nor from the 38th or 117th Sqdn, 101st, 102nd, 107th, 115th or 14th Cavalry Regiments/Groups.

If this photograph is from "and some by  period..   WW2" why does the Jeep have the same serial number as the modern photograph above? 

Most likely, part of the emergency response team. Ships have fires and flooding, due to things other than battle. They are dangerous places to live and work. We had Damage Controlman, on dome sf the ships I was on, ( mostly the large ones), that wore red ball caps. When these guys were running through a passageway, and yelled “Make a Hole!”, you knew to get out of the way. Sometimes they were called the “Flying Squad”, or something similar

Here is a close-up on the 1st sgt, notice how the cuff is very similar to Australian made Ike jackets?  

Here is a photo I picked up from eBay. A sgt 1st wearing a 90th bomb group patch on what I believe to be an Australian made Ike jacket. It also looks like on the back it is named to Johnnie? Don’t know if there would be anywhere to identify who it is but still. Great photo and glad to have it.
