Run the photo of that name with different filters on your computer. You should be able to get it to pop. -

It's hard to say 100%, but it looks (at first blush) to be NS Meyer restrikes, where they have replaced the pin and hinge with more "appropriate" findings. The original (such as they were) restrikes used an un-cammed pin and a hinge that allowed the pin to open up 180 degrees. In later iterations, scam artists (knowing this was the kiss of death for making an expensive sale) started replacing the pins/hinges on the restrikes with other findings from less valuable vintage wings that only open 90 degrees. It appears to me that both of your wings have had their findings replaced (the metal under the hinge and catch seems to be discolored--a classic sign of resoldering and replacement/repair). The other "tell" on NS Meyer wings is the larger font STERLING. You can theoretically "fix" the pin tell, but fixing the font tell is much harder. Both of your wings have the large STERLING font size that I always associate with restrikes. Remember these restrikes have been around for decades and may have really great patina and wear. And with anything NS Meyer, there will be as many opinions as "experts". A visit to Bob's site or a search of this forum for NS Meyer wings (including balloon and airship ratings) will find pretty good threads and discussions. I hate to say definitive YES OR NO on vintage, but I would probably tread very carefully around these as they do give me heartburn. Just my thoughts P -

Don't know. They may have been made for a printing press rather than a die to strike insignia. Our resident die-expert, Heath, should know. -

I finished cleaning it off. There is what looks like a name written in pencil inside. The seventh letter looks the same as the third letter. It didn't show up in the picture. Doesn't make much sense. Who knows when it was written in there. I will take pictures outside tomorrow. -

I believe so. Others may know more and when they had been manufactured. Nice birds 😆 -

Recently acquired these two wings. A Balloon pilot and a Blimp/Dirigible pilot. I must clarify I'm not a wing collector, main interest is WWII Aviation uniforms and flight gear. So thought I'd seek out opinions from our Forum's more experienced collectors. Came in a large lot of insignia so seller was not attempting to pull the wool over my eyes. They are not cast and the pins open 90 degrees. I know those two factors are not definitive but did give me an once of hope. Thanks for looking and any help appreciated. -

Would the pins marked Shold-R-Form with the reversed shield and marked Sterling also WW2? -

Incredibly sad news. Eric was always kind to ask and answer questions to further the hobby. Eric was above approach in all conversations and dealings. If he knew I was interested in something that I asked his opinion he would not bid on it, even if he was interested in it. Our hobby lost a legend. Rest in peace. I just wish I could have found your bullion dog handler scroll. -

I know there was a rumor of guys from 2/11th Cavalry burying their berets in a box under the flagpole of Daley Barracks, but I recall they found nothing when the area was excavated as part of land redevelopment in the 2000s. Still, the fact that such a rumor existed says a lot about how much the berets meant to the armored cavalry at the time. -
