I certainly viewed Eric as a pillar in our community here.    Most recently, he and I exchanged a couple of pages of PMs this spring - unsurprisingly, about military working dogs and their handlers.    We talked about our shared love and admiration for dogs, and it was obvious to me that his was genuine and deep.   I am sharing a link to his obituary, with my apologies if this has already been done:   Robert "Eric" Queen 11/13/1964 ~ 6/12/2025   Have peaceful rest, Eric, and thank you for everything.  🐕‍🦺

I have been told that the M3 CASE and M8AI is original, but the shaft is clearly not. Anybody want to confirm that the blade is a real original? Sure looks like it at least. And if so, what would you consider the worth to be?  Thank you in advance :)

I have had this a few months. A friend had it originally. He outbid me at a auction. It literally came out of a barn. He went digging in the barn and found a camo WW1 helmet they missed. I bought and traded him for it. I think he said he put it on Facebook Militaria forum. I don't  do Facebook. I decided to clean it. I used water only. I only cleaned a small spot so far.

That still looks shabby and third-world to me.

Well that's about as cool as it gets. I'm going to start looking into the 8th ID. Mr Unger was stationed in Germany when Korea broke out, so the 8th ID makes sense.    The 11th didn't arrive in Germany until 1956 under Operation Gyroscope, so I don't belive this to be an 11th Airborne helmet.    EDIT: looks like the 8th was also part of Operation Gyroscope. Interesting.
