This newly acquired FS/SB helmet was at one time repainted a lighter green and has what looks to be tape marks across the top. Maybe used as a medic or corpsman helmet. Your thoughts please! Thanks Craig -

Good afternoon everyone, I picked this up from a seller here on the forum. This helmet belonged to Guinn Unger, a 17th Airborne and Varsity veteran who later became a commissioned officer. He commissioned in 1949 and as you can see, this helmet is marked with a 1LT bar up front, so he had this not longer after commissioning. The mystery here is: what unit is this helemt from? It's painted black, as was common for Airborne and Jumpmaster instructors up until the 1970s, but the design on the sides is throwing me off. I understand he was stationed at Fort Benning and Fort Bragg not long after being commissioned. My initial thought was a jumpmaster instructor helmet but I have no evidence to back that up. Thanks for looking, Eric -

Awsome DUI, that one’s probably the coolest one out of all 9th DUI’s. I think there’s at least 2 other types with one being enamel. Great find! -

Same here in Flanders Fields… Giant machines driven by very young drivers, phone in hand, at very high speeds… Glad to read you escaped unharmed
