I'm kind of late to this but strongly agree with hyrax222. All of the (4) WW1 '97s I've handled, including mine have a slightly wonky U.S. stamp.

There great guns I own a couple, as for Value I bought mine years ago for a couple hundered a piece. They have gone crazy I've heard.    Scott you forgot your bayonet for the picture....

yes I had a 7th N.Y. jacket from the same time period, they where almost identical except gray different buttons and I dont remember a black band or the brass trim. 

Here is a nice example of the new 1st Battalion, 187th Infantry Regiment's Beret Flash being warn by a 1st battalion major at the Army's 250th Birthday celebration in DC. I call the flash new, because 1-187 was not in existence during the time the 101st was wearing the dark-blue air assault beret (1974-1979), so it had no historical beret flash to fall back on. I think it is very cool that air assault units are beginning to wear organizational beret flashes, just like their wear airborne background trimming behind their Air Assault Badge.

There were some skeet, & trap guns used for training but I believe they were the earlier purchased versions marked UNITED STATES PROPERTY & GHS inspected. As stated the 20" riot would be my guess. (I agree with SSG Mac & loose that thing on the front.) Here is my Trench gun.
