I go to hundreds of sales that have junk, it can be hard on the motivation.

The new 11th Airborne Division Beret Flash and Airborne Background Trimming is a nice combination of the division's lineage. The historic 11th Airborne Division's WWII trimming and the US Army Pacific, Early Entry Command Post (US Army Alaska) flash and trimming--which was used to create the command element of the 11th Airborne Division. A nice nod to the past.

I did not see a Saturn launch but I was at Redstone Arsenal when the first Saturn booster engine was fired on its test stand there. It was a run- up to a half- throttle burn of only ONE of the six engines but it shook the ground like an earthquake. Lights in the post library swung crazily and police phone lines were tied up by panicked Huntsville citizens. Some were convinced that it was the Apocalypse.   This test had not been publicly announced so it came as a surprise. In addition, atmospheric conditions that day reflected the sound back to the ground, making it audible for a long distance.    The second full- throttle test took place the same morning that the post held a parade and review. We fell out for inspection and then marched to the parade ground . Standing at attention, we heard "Attention to announcements" over the loudspeaker and some General stepped up to the microphone and began to speak. We did not hear one word of his speech for at the same time the Saturn engine fired. As the engine shut down, the General stopped speaking and we heard "Pass in review". We marched past the reviewing stand and back to our barracks, not knowing why we were in a parade or what for. 😳

I think 1850s would be appropriate. Here's a listing showing a pair of Virginian Militia's epaulettes that are more in the style of your epaulettes.

. This afternoon . . . . . . .    after leaving a friends house this evening I got to the end of their single track road and encountered a huge combine harvester occupying the width of the blacktop road coming towards me. Braking wasn't an option so it was a quick swerve into the ditch and an immediate swerve catapulting me out  the ditch at which my rear  grab-handle made contact with the huge wide rear tyre, a little bit of paint removed and rubber mark added but fortunately no damage done,  all down to swift reaction due to years of Jeeping experience., I love Jeeping .             Norman D.
