I have never seen one of those in hand, so I am not sure if they were converted British uniforms, or tailor made in that style. With so many US Officer Air Corps uniforms found made by French and British tailors, I would not be surprised if they were just made up for the individual flyer wanting that style. I would also love to hear from anyone else who might know more. Interesting post. -

The majority of the photos of those pilots were taken while in service with the RFC or of squadrons that fought alongside them, so it would make sense, especially because the few photos of American pilots on the Italian front I've seen don't show a singular person with the open collar style -

The suit is WW2 one. Great example, perfect for NAVY pilot/aircrew impression. At the photo of your grandfather, looks like he is wearing khaki pants and a shirt. I guess he was an officer (pilot) not enlisted man (gunner)? Cheers, Jerry -

Hey guys, I've what I thought was a simple question but finding no confirmation just 2 opinion camps...are these kits US NARINE CORP or US MEDICAL CORP? Personally I thought Marine as most medical issue items I've seen (WW2) were MEDICAL DEPARTMENT marked. Your thoughts? Thanks -

As the others have said, dating these and placing them to a specific location in history is nearly impossible. I have an unpublished midway submarine base photo album with photos of the bar area that is heavily decorated with presumably tender-made dolphins. They were used during the period but also for many years afterwards.
