Hi Ron. You are one regiment away from Dad’s. He was in the 106th on Saipan. The 27th Division seemed to have widely used camouflage painted helmets. I’ve never been able to find much information on the why and how. If anyone has the story, please post about it.  mikie

oh cool! i didnt exactly know how rare it was. the surplus told me it went to a tank and there were like 5 different possibilities of what ithought it went to. i saw the aa gun when i searched up the t123 gun and i was worried if it was not as rare as i thought. my friend was also making fun of me for that too. it still is a bit confusing for me about the possibilities. i obviosly dont know as much as you guys and i thank you so much for you teaching me.

Cool stuff. Showing some age and use. Hard to believe its been over 20 years since OEF/ OIF kicked off. I have all my gear and I have been squirreling away anything I find at yard sales, antiques shops, thrift shops. Always surprised when I find a mitch helmet or USMC light weight with covers and suspensions intact. I was charged $150 for the K-pot I wore in Afghanistan in 2004 after I decided to keep it. I was issued a Mitch however I never used it as the pads where rock hard in the cold winter in the Afghan mountains. I turned that one back in. Very cool stuff and I would been tickled to find it. 

The paint is a mystery old paint .just got it today the knife yard sale .had to ask if any ww2 memorabilia. Family lives same home for years. Sometimes get lucky .older neiberhood estate sales

A continuation of the above. I have a drawing of a copy of the WW II patch packed away.  I spent over ten years (off and on) in 533.  In Japan, Viet Nam, on a carrier and in the States in my career.  533 eventually transitioned to the A6-A in the mid 60's and went to Viet Nam.  Back to Japan in 71 and back to Thailand to support the war in RVN in 72, then back to Japan in 73.  About 76 they came back to MCAS Cherry Point, NC.  From 78-89 depolyments to Japan and carriers filled the bill.  In 92 deployed to Kuwait for Desert Storm. In 93 they transitioned to the F-18.  If this is out of place, I apologize.  The mods can delete or transfer it as they see fit.  If I run across the drawing I will post it.
