If you are going to use it for reenacting, don't worry about cleaning.  It's collectibility will be ruined in short order any way.

The blade is in beautiful condition, very nice. I admire the leather work and stamps. Reminds me of earning my leatherwork badge in boy scouts. Whomever stamped there name was certainly proud of it and would be proud of the fact that it's being displayed in 2025.

Here’s a friend’s Ford GPW delivered on 31st May 1945 still with blue drab numbers from the factory Numbers were re-applied after restoration as they we found them during teardown..

ALL jeeps left the factory with blue drab numbers through the end of production in the Summer of 1945 The Feb 1945 Army Regulations were not adhered to until after the WW2 contracts were all done. The famous factory photo of the MB with hard top in the factory bearing white hood numbers was actuallyntaken in December 1945.   My 1942 Ford GPW as shown below sports the factory look of only blue drab US Army registration numbers. All other markings were painted in the unit or in theater.   Read more on markings on this page of my website: http://www.theliberator.be/liberator1.htm

My vote for the 8th ID is WWII English made. You're in the right neck of the woods to find that one!
