Hi all, A quick introduction. Irish collector here, collector of British medals for around 15 years. Though have recently started getting into American medals (started with them when I started collecting 20 years ago), Vietnam era of particular interest. Looking forward to posting, and learning. Thanks, Stephen -

HI Dave, Roger that, and its as good as an explanation as any.... Maybe better than most. No way to know thats for sure. The only point I would like to debate on, is why not the liner? Someone may or may not have added embellishments to it or they might not have? Head band looks awfully fresh.... I cant tell if its a repro? Maybe someone can? But that type of liner certainly could have been used in the type of helmet its in.... The Navy mixed and matched all type of liners and steel. So why not this liner? The story? Yea ... we wont ever know that one..... The seller never got back to me on that one, unfortunately., Doyler!- Awesome lid! Cheers ! Dave -

OH, I wasn't talking at you. I tend to get wordy because I want to be sure what I am saying is understood. Short comments can be misinterpreted. Everyone has a limit as to what is acceptable to them. At the B-24 crash site a high impact specialist from the coroners office came out to make sure it wasn't a homicide. He had all sorts of story's about recovering remains from fresh aircraft crash sites. I could never do that. Bones are ok but what he does ...it takes a special kind of person to do what he does. I'm not special. -

Had his file pulled and recently was contacted by a nephew of the vet who filled in some info as well. Was really just luck to have the name on the liner. When I saw the helmet the little inner voice said "there is a story here". -

My depot made USMC cover is packed away but these pictures show the detail difference. My example is unissued and a darker green canvas color also. On line example: The tip is sewn3/4 way around the edge. Dark leather, drain grommet Many times you see the green thread the depot used. -

Wow! Some history is better than no history. The back story should have been preserved with the helmet, but at least the helmet survived.
