I have one marked S452A rear seam/manganese with added camo paint. I really don’t know when it was painted but thought I would share. I’ve also included it’s 1952 Capco Liner. -

There are a number of medals that are engraved with incorrect spellings that came out of the Philadelphia Quartermaster Depot that were basically sold for scrap metal prices but were "rescued" and found their way to the collectors' market. There are also a large number of medals that had misspellings on them that were issued and were never replaced. I'll give you a couple of extreme examples- Larry Pistole, who collected WWII Flying Tigers memorabilia and who wrote one of the best militaria themed books ever- "The Pictorial History of the Flying Tigers" photographed a Medal of Honor in his collection that came from a Flying Tiger Ace. The Ace GAVE HIM the medal. Larry told the story that the Ace didn't care much about the medal as the hero's name was misspelled on the back side!!!! I have been very honored to have had the opportunity to view more than a few Purple Hearts to members of the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in WWII. I have always been amazed at the high percentage of these medals that were also misspelled. I've had some collectors who thought it was because the Japanese names were hard to spell, so they were easily spelled incorrectly, but I have also heard it opined that the engravers intentionally misspelled names as a form of disrespect. Whatever the circumstance, there seem to be a bunch of them that aren't correctly spelled. Allan -
