The collective knowledge, offered by everyone responding, extends my understanding. I was unaware of the Gebruder - Solingen import. Photos of the saber I found are attached. This is the 1840 model heavy saber. I appreciate your understanding of dragoon equipment. What markings appear on the French fabrication? -

Thanks for posting that badge, EE87. Interesting how the numbers on the bottom, front are just a hair off center. Then when you look at the reverse the pin is also just a hair off center. I guess badge makers have bad days, too. -
