If you look at the first image, you can see that the front eyelet for the chinstrap attachment is still filled with paint. The other side was the same way. Looks like this thing sat un issued somewhere since the war maybe?

Thank you both for the information. I have attached a couple more pictures with some more details.      As for the scabbard cleanup is there a specific process anyone would recommend? I was reluctant to do anything to the leather  and metal without further research.           Thanks in advance,     Hayman

For that time period M1956 gear would be the best way to go.  Trying to imagine the mix of equipment types GIs could have used at that time from the different eras will give you fits.

These pants were made in the government-run clothing factory of the Defense Clothing & Textile Supply Center (DC&TSC), which later evolved into part of the Defense Personnel Support Center (DPSC). That is why the contract number is different.   Probably from around the end of 1962 as a slightly higher DC&TSC clothing factory contract number (5476) is dated 14 January 1963.
