And the ribbon has a slightly orange shade to it on the wrap brooch numbered version.     Compare the color of the ribbon on the posted medal to the color of the extra ribbon section below it. The ribbon section has the more typical darker red shade.   I’m still looking for the rare version with the ring suspension on the planchet.

The easiest way to find a rim numbered Army Good Conduct is to look for a wrap brooch instead of the much more common slot brooch. As far as I know, all numbered GC's came from the same production run and all have a wrap brooch.   Allan

Hello California and thanks for your response. You have great suggestions and I have already implemented most of them, or are on the board. I am waiting on a response from the National Archives, the  AFHRA. and a couple of Army history associations. I appreciate your suggestions.   Happy writing Charles

After reading the article, I think the platforms to be removed are the small ones on the starboard side of the ship and actually affixed to the deck.  The two larger ones at the top of the pictures are not the ones being removed.   Steve

A quick online look-up yielded this. It doesn't explain why the need for the word "significant."  "  (a)  A unit that conducted an ice-covered strait transit (e.g.,  Bering Strait, Barrow Strait).      (b)  A unit that conducted a transit of the North Pole (defined  by operating north of latitude 82N).      (c)  A submarine that conducted a vertical surfacing through ice, including through an arctic polynya, or ice picked against the ice canopy.      (d)  A submarine that conducted at least seven days of classified military operations while under the marginal ice zone or  pack ice.      (e)  An ice camp or operations center established on an ice floe, as determined by the unit's Commanding Officer."

This is where my $ would be.  Post war repaint of his existing helmet to spruce it up for occupation duties. Our post war Army quickly reverted to shinny helmets, polished brass belt eyelets, polishing double buckle rough out boots and pressing clothing for the look and the busy work it required.  The helmet itself could have come thru France on his head but we can only speculate at this point.

I am in need of assistance with info on Stephen. I am looking at a knife that has his name on it. It is a Vietnam era blade. I have come up empty, I have a little over a day to find something on him. Units he served with etc. Virginia is a location I believe was his location. I'm not positive on M being his middle initial.   Thanks in Advance,   Mark

Learn something new every day. I guess when I start organizing my GC's, I'll have to check the rims.
