I did buy one of these bayonets around 30 years ago from SARCO. I think they were $29 and they were solid. But mine would not fit in my AR15. It was close and I could have made it work. It sold the first day at a shop I sold knives. I would buy another one for $29; Dennis aka nifman -

"You have chosen wisely" Now just get rid of all that 'other' stuff! Have been an old 'rag picker' for 40+ years now. Alot easier to store and move around if needed! But when you get 30 odd variations and types of the 1st Div alone, you start to wonder! ASMIC is a very good place/group to join also. We even have a collector or two from Belgium that show up at the ASMIC yearly convention most years. Here are a few more 1st Div examples to look for! -

They are not High Top Survival Kit Moccasins. They may be WW II or Korean War issue Mukluks; I am not that familiar with standard issue items. The high top survival kit moccasins with white uppers have a tan colored leather sole with a sewn in label. The only all white survival kit moccasins have a 1979 contract date, and the name was changed to Boot, Extreme Cold Weather. -

Indeed, I let his son's reference to '4th Cavalry Division' rest because his account of his father's service was marked as a family story shared with me and everyone knows what he meant. But I'll change it now because it could mislead others. Thanks for the extra insights - I'll share them with Steve and see what he thinks. His son (Donald Coffey's grandson) is in the military and offered this theory: 'Dad entered service in Jan 41, shortly after the 24th cavalry division was deactivated. A quartermaster issues dad a blouse which still has the rose and stirrup patch on it. The blouse is put in dad’s footlocker and is not used until dad needs a blouse for the photo. He puts the ribbons and lapel brass on it but not his stripes and then heads to the photo studio.' The whole family are now fascinated by this mystery. -

Yah, Schlueter and McCord are 100% different. There also is a Schlueter dating chart somewhere in here but I cannot find the post at the moment, this is likely a late 44/45 made helmet, and it’s definitely not post war because Schlueter finished there 1 and only contract in August of 45. Like I said in my previous post, I have one that is extremely similar to this one but in perfect mint condition manufactured in 44 and it has the same production characteristics. So moral of the study is that it wasn’t refurbed and those chinstraps and the inside paint are original to the Helmet, and it was produced late 44’ or early 45’ -

This can't be from 1943 as helmet shells with a seam on the rear were made starting in late 1944. Also that post is about a helmet shell made by McCord. The estimated time frame for lot numbers from McCord can't be used for dating shells made by Schlueter as Schlueter started making shells later than McCord (1943) so lot numbers from Schlueter from the same time as those from McCord are much lower. https://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/227663-rough-schlueter-helmet-date-configuration-chart/ -
