Hello to all   Today at St James Brittany Cemetery was the day i have visited one of the 2 KIA soldier plot i'm in charge of with my son and daughter   (the other one is in Normandy and will be visited next week)   I do have very strong ties with the USA. As close as i have for my own country. Almost stateside 2 times a year visiting this wonderfull country and people.   Among the KIA fellas, i feel like i'm among comrades. Those are always very emotional moments ...   ----------------------------   Lester H Scheaffer ASN 33835059 from Fleetwood PA was in 175th Infantry Regiment 29th Infantry Division.   He was married and had a 5 YO daughter named Geraldine. He was a truck driver delivering ice and coal.   A late replacement, only in his unit since a couple of days, he was KIA September 12th 1944 in the approach to fort de Keranroux (near Brest – Brittany)   As stated in the official book of the 29th this day F/175th attempt to get close to the heavily armed and defended fort but were repulsed and stopped “by heavy mortar fire and automatic weapons. They had to whithdraw making back to their line with the help of heavy smoke and artillery fire”   Mr Lester Scheaffer is a relative of a forum member (isn’it Tyler ?? ;-) )   A great respect for him among all the others who came in my country to liberate us and gave us back liberty. Some of them gave all ... even their lives ...   Thanks

Sorry to bump an old thread but I purchased one of the hc smoke pots at an estate sale as I thought it was unique.  I am trying to find out a little more info.

This amazing helmet came out of the woodwork in Montana.  A nice front seam, FB with an MSA liner.  The front has the 90th Division painted insignia and below there's the outline of an oakleaf that has broken off sometime in the helmets history.  The reverse of the pot has the officer's vertical "follow me" stripe.  The MSA liner was painted red a some point but the leather sweatband has the name "Major Cooper" in ink.  Not sure how hard it would be to research the name but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  It would be amazing if it turned out to be a D-Day helmet as I believe 3 battalions of the division landed at Omaha Beach on June 6.  Regardless, the 90th Division saw lots and lots of action starting in Normandy to the surrender of the German Army.

Good to know! I haven’t been able to find anything while I’ve been here. I’ve went to quite a few antique shops and they’re very slim

First of these newsletters I've ever found.  Sent from the CO of the Bon Homme Richard to the families back home directly after the Gulf of Tonkin incident letting them know the carrier had been extended because of Communist aggression in Southeast Asia.  Signed by the CO, Captain G. S. Morrison, the father of Jim Morrison of the Doors.  This is kind of a historic piece as it marks the beginning of the Vietnam War.

Welcome from Nebraska! Several collectors down in your area. I try to come down there every couple months or so. FYI: There is a great military collectors show in Hastings, NE every March!

Nice addition.  Yes, for some reason people go crazy for these early numbered GC medals.  I was lucky to pick up a very early numbered GC here on the forum a few years ago here on the forum and even though it was a bit pricey I still think I got a really good deal on it as these are certainly not something you see everyday.  Congrats on the new addition to the museum.
