Ste Mere Eglise this morning . . . . . .   local friend Mike phoned and said he needed to gas up his car ready for the coming week as normally this week of the year all the visitors coming long distance form lines of cars waiting to gas up and sometimes they exhaust the gas-stations supply.  Also we would call into Ste Mere for a coffee as next week all traffic is banned in the town square, so here are two shots from today, It was amazing and amusing the crowds his car attracted more so than his restored Jeep normally does.          Norman D. That’s a WW1 Overcoat button. Probably not used in WW2. The WW2 button were gold, not subdued Black like the WW1. 

Agree.  This was my point.  There are dozens of Vietnam graffiti helmets and/or covers on Ebay at any given time that were created last week by some guy a Sharpie and being sold as "original."         You're going to have to network with other collectors here on this forum and others like it.  You could try local shows.  Find some dealers specializing in US and specifically Vietnam era Militaria.   You could try running ads in your local paper.  I used to run ads locally in the 90's and 2000's for WWII Militaria and was fairly successful at pulling some neat stuff out of the woodwork.  You may find a vet or the family of a vet looking to sell.     If you come across something, be sure to post it here first for review.  As 644td said, original M1 Vietnam used examples are going to be exceedingly rare and demand a high price...thus, they are a minefield.

Here's a post Korean War example, the 81st Division of the Reserves down South. There are more example of the WWII Stripes on 50s Fatigues as well as IKE Jackets scattered around we're sure in various topics.

A whole load of helmets getting the 3rd Division patch painted on. Don't know if this is sometime in WWII, Post WWII or the Korean War.
