World War One era photo. Probably taken stateside. You are correct- Army Reserve. Also, he is an officer. Artillery Lieutenant. The possibility of IDing him is quite unlikely. -

Have a look at this, to give you an idea of what would be involved, then compare it to a fairly recent combination cap. Ok, will it be a perfect reproduction? No, but it will be very close and far better than the utter junk that many many places seem to crap out onto the market at highly inflated prices. http://www.usww2uniforms.com/USN_combination_cap.html -

As far as I know, no one currently makes a good quality reproduction of the USN Combination cap. You might actually be able to get one made for you by Society Brand Hat Company however, I do believe he is currently very busy. You could try Aviator Military Headwear, they are over here in the UK. I had a very high quality crusher made by them a few weeks ago, and was very impressed with the service and the cap. Here is an option that might actually be worth looking into, and one I am looking to try out myself. Find a good quality Bancroft combination hat made in the last 20-30 years (easier and probably even cheaper for you to do in the US), replace the plastic frame with a wicker weaved type or even buckram fabric to build upon. Replace the modern bird with an easily obtainable original and you'd probably come out on top. The other covers though, I'm sure you'd be able to find originals about that are suitable. -

Nice finds, I would have no problem buying those right away if I found them out and about. Second one looks like it was refurbished for Vietnam and the sweat band looks newer. Suspension and A washers look pretty new as well, mabey a restoration. -

Hello and welcome! I believe both cans are WWII era construction. Sorry but I cannot give an interpretation of the markings. I believe there is a post somewhere on the forum that explains them. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be able to answer you. mikie -

I’ll defer to expert (which I am not) opinions, but it looks like a .30-06 blank cartridge. LC is for Lake City arsenal. The 69 is the year 1969. A picture of the top end would be good to add. mikie -

That makes a lot of sense, thanks for telling the “rest of the story”. Really just a first class grouping and you are clearly committed to preserving his sacrifice. Great job!
