Hey yall, just wondering if anyone could offer an opinion on a couple of relics I found. These were found in very close proximity to the Rock Island Arsenal in Illinois. The suspender buckle is dated 1856-1870, its a pretty common find, I just included it because it was found near the other 3 relics. The long tube shaped copper piece is what I have always thought resembled a bayonet scabbard tip. It's in pretty rough condition, looks like it had been in the ground for a really long time. The other two are what I have always believed look like lead caltrops. I know there is some controversy regarding the use of caltrops, but the Blackhawk indian "war" also took place near this location a few decades earlier. I know they are tiny relics, any opinions would be appreciated. Thanks! -

I would have liked to had one as a teen bowfishing for carp....It would have made for a fine head knocker and other things....LOL....I would have likely lost it by throwing it. -

I would consider the last two patches are newer made examples. Made after the use of pocket patches was a common thing. The top example is like one I have in my pocket patch collection that I have collected for 40+ years. The bottom one 'could' be but I have seen more modern made examples made in this style than older/vintage used examples. Without going thru my collection a scanning a few examples, here are some I have already posted elsewhere. I tried to keep the Arty. related examples in mind but a few others are present too. -

I have this 1884 Civil war veteran encampment medal that was held at Gettysburg. It reads “1884 encampment of N.C.P at Gettysburg PA”. I have no idea what “NCP” stands for, does anyone have a clue??? Maybe “non colored people?” No idea! thanks -

Yup. That’s the best way to sum it up. It’s a solid helmet and you got it for a bargain. No matter what it might be it’s a Solid purchase. As long as you enjoy it that’s what matters 👍 -
