jsand, that is a really nice one. Unfortunately, I’m not able to help on specific dates, but these are indeed 20’s through 1950’s. It seems they became really more common during WWII when the number of active duty personnel increased significantly. Question: is that a patent number on the left side of the buckle in the second picture? If so, we can look that up and find a date range from the US Patent Office listings. -

I recently purchased a small pile of Vietnam era M65 Field Jacket. With that said I was looking through the pockets today and came across this rather spooky name tape on one of them. Not sure if it was intended as a joke. But it looks as if the name tape has been on the jacket for quite awhile and they did a very good job sewing it on. I also did some research and while Death is in fact a real but obviously rare surname I really wouldn’t want the soldier, nothing personal, as a platoon mate -
