One of the labels is missing on your container. That is an SRU-15/P Sleeping Bag - Container, Parachute Bailout that contained an MC-1 sleeping bag. They were used in various survival kits by both the Air Force and Army. Your container was used by the Air Force based on the label with the Air Force TO number. The MC-1 sleeping bag was packed is several different manners and is a reversable down filled sleeping bag that is green on one side and white on the other. There was no zipper, just a drawstring at the open end. The sleeping bag has a 1958 drawing number, and the container has a 1959 drawing number. I have not seen any containers like yours that were made after the Mid 1960's, but they remained in service until 1990's when they were replaced by another vacuum-packed sleeping bag. -

The insignia is for the staff college, so not a unit guidon per se, but for the school. Very nice souvenir nonetheless and some great history contained on it. Also of interest is the eagle on the insignia, with the vertical star pattern it is a pre 1991 version as Saddam ordered the national eagle changed after the 91 gulf war, they went to a horizontal version for the stars. I don't have any 27th uniforms, but I do have a 27th helmet. It has a bullet (probably a pistol) dent in the front of it, right where the logo is. It has no liner or chinstrap. My father got it when he was stationed in Germany. I might have a picture of it somewhere. If not, I'll post one later today. -

Recently obtained this interesting group. This Officer started out in 1957 in Naval Intelligence and later went onto Surface Warfare Officer. He was in the Brown Water Navy during Vietnam and several at sea fleet assignments. The Commander ultimately commanded the USS Power DD-839.
