      1) You are 100% correct, but if you read the title of the post you would know that the time frame covered was from 1966 to 1976. The military specifications for the nylon water canteen cover (MIL-C-43742) were not changed. However, the material used to construct the nylon water canteen cover was. Interim Amendment 4 to MIL-C-7219F, the military specifications for CLOTH, DUCK, NYLON, changed the nylon cloth's color from OG-106 to CAMOUFLAGE GREEN 483 on 4 March 1991 (outside the scope of this original post's time frame).   2) Turner Thurston Manufacturing Corporation is not (and has never been) a United States government contractor. According to the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) the company has NEVER received a United States government contract, nor have they ever had a FSCM or CAGE Code assigned to them (which they would HAVE to have to do business with the United States government). Further, Turner Thurston is not a subsidiary or DBA of any past or present government contractor. As I have said before in a different post: the Turner Thurston nylon shotgun shell pouch is NOT a United States Government contracted item (further evidence is that the PII is fictional). Again, the DLA has never contracted the manufacture of a tan LC-2 1-quart water canteen cover for issuance to the United States military.   Craig and I had our suspicions as to who Turner Thurston really was, but to date there is no solid evidence to link him to the fictional corporation (or to Hudgins Manufacturing Corporation and Sorrell Manufacturing Corporation).

In your opinion, how many models of 105mm cases are represented, training ammunition, gas ammunition, HE ammunition, smoke ammunition, were there others ? I can't distinguish the ammunition identification colors on the side of the crates.

Thanks for shaving these photographs.  I always thought that the rough surface on the back of early US SF Grp DUIs was an indicator of a reproduction.  Below are photos of genuine and reproduction early 10th SF Grp DUIs and 77th SF Grp DUIs.  The ones with the rear rough surfaces are reproductions.  However since you got this 300th SF Det DUI from the veteran himself and I have not come across any other variant over probably a 30 plus year search it must be the real McCoy.

I recently picked up this ww2 pin that I believe is a rare Early Ww2 Aerial Gunner pin. Any information on it and when and why it was awarded is appreciated.

Well, you can request the Cold War Certificate which is recognition and you should have received the National Defense Service Medal which is also recognition for your service outside of the war zone. As you know, the military moves slow, but recognition was and is available.   Scott

Interesting that he was in 3 different units in one month. Is that possible?
