I officially started this season’s yard sailing the past couple of days and though I came across a fair amount of material it was either too expensive or not for sale.   Towards the end of today I meet a man who retired from General Dynamics and he kindly sold me this damaged part.   He told me it came off the ammunition stowage area of an Abrams and they were testing the affect of a machine gun.   Several times I asked him what kind of a machine gun did this but he wouldn’t answer.    He insisted several times that the price was fair because of the high grade steel it was made from.   Anyone out there know what this part is and what kind of a machine gun can do this damage?

Not sure if there's already a post for this, but if not, there is now. What era do you collect? WW2, WW1, Civil War, Vietnam, or just everything in general?   I personally collect anything I can get my hands on, but mostly WW2 and Vietnam. I also have a few WW1 items and a Civil War minie ball.

You should start a new thread with a proper title so everyone will see it.   I might be under noticed here.

Cool group!! As time passes, these complete groups are getting harder and harder to fine! The field artillery of the 5th Division fired some of the last shots of the war!

I have seen these shoulder strap souvenir collections especially in medical WWI groups!  I was told that the among the medics treating German wounded and sick it was popular to collect these from the soldiers being treated.  Has anyone else seen any reference to this?  Great group and display in any case!!
