The Hacienda de Buena Vista, recently incorporated into the city of Saltillo, has been an agricultural school for many years. In 1847 five miles separated the city from the hacienda. Construction of the first building occurred in 1578, on a site that later became the Un. Autonoma Agraria Antonio Narro. A planting of Pinon Pine covering a large portion of the nearby battlefield plateau is a one of many orchards managed by the university.     Many units from Wool's Division camped at the hacienda before and following the battle of February 22 - 23, 1847.  A severe action at the hacienda was a collision of saber wielding horsemen and charging lancers from several Guanajuato Regiments.*         The relics displayed are from the volunteer camps of the North Carolina and Virginia Regiments. Both units became part of Wool's Division after the battle.     * 3rd, 7th and 8th Cavalry Mexican Guanajuato Activos Regiments; 1st U.S. Dragoons, one squadron, 2nd U.S. Dragoons one squadron, Arkansas Cavalry and Kentucky Horse

For the Liberation Festivities on the 5th of May I shot how the Signal Photographic Company photographers shot film during the War: With Pack Film in their cameras!     A few years back I was given this pack of Tri-X film by a friend who had hoarded a large supply of film from a camera shop that went under. I always assumed it was a box with loose sheet film, until I opened up the light proof envelope and felt the metallic housing of the pack last week. And then I had to go dig through the stash of obsolete camera gear to pull out an adapter for it. Now, know that this stuff has been extinct since the early 90s and the pack itself had expired 1981!  I have never dealt with pack film before and I felt this was a bit of a personal mile stone in my living history career. Like driving in a jeep for the first time 😅 I over-exposed the film a bit, to off set the effect of the aging. And cosmic radiation would've caused fog on the film regardless. But as I pulled the first set of negatives from the tank, I was actually surprised (and somewhat relieved) that there were any images on it at all. The density of the negatives is pretty thick, so I'll tweak the developing process a little more for the remainder. Then I'll scan and share some of them, once I've finished developing the entire pack. Fun! Fun! Fun!
