This is one fantastic grouping. I am amazed at it. A really stunning tribute to Carl's Service. K-9's were heroes of the war also. Thanks ever so much for posting. I had to go back and look at it a second time. Everyone should take time to look at it. Dave -

Here's a cool 1950's era squadron buckle that went for a very fair price on the Liveauctioneers site a couple of days ago. -

The photo with the dead Germans is very reminiscent of the photos you see of battlefield aftermath of the Civil War. How many pics does each album have? Are these photos from one of them or a selection from the ones you picked up? -

Sold for $202.50. That’s about right. Common sword, but nice that it has the leather scabbard. -

I have a pretty good record of my ancestor's service in the Confederacy from his application for a pension (granted). He apparently figured out the way to be released from Point Lookout prison was to join the U. S. troops who were sent to the Western Plains. Where are records for that service maintained? All suggestions will be appreciated. -

I have a pretty detailed history of my ancestor's colorful service in the Confederacy from his application for a pension. However, I have not been able to find more about the circumstances surrounding his court martial or other administrative proceeding that resulted in loss of pay in 1864. Interestingly, shortly before this he was shot in the leg and admitted to Chimborazo Hospital. When he returned to active duty, he "fell behind" (his words) and was captured by Union troops, then sent to Point Lookout. To be released from there, he joined the US Army and was sent to South Dakota. These are a few items from his service file during his time in the 30th Battalion Virginia Sharpshooters. Any suggestions will be appreciated.
