Jerry, nice photos. Thank you for sharing. And if you look closely at this photo, this navy officer is wearing a Marine summer shirt as demonstrated by the scalloped pocket flaps. Probably due to them being more breathable and lighter weight. -

My first post wasn't as clear as I had hoped. When I said they rechambered the P-14 to 30-06 I did not mean they converted the British rifles, the M-1917s were made as M-1917s just using the British design that the manufacturers were tooled for but adapted for American use. Not sure where the P-17 nomenclature came from but I did not mention it. Back to the bayonet, I can't really see it clearly but is that a crown just above the US marking on the blade? If so it was probably sent to the UK as Lend-lease and the British marked it and replaced the green leather in the scabbard with black leather which had the broad arrow. -

About two-three years ago, I was contacted by the owner who I had contacted expressing an interest in a hat. About 6 months after I sent the email, he replied and he said he was deployed and hadn't been making them for some time. I was then contacted by him again when he returned, and he offered to make me one, but I had found another by then. I think he made some more for a short time, but hasn’t been back in business since. There was an English maker (Mike I believe, cant remember the brand he was making them under but it was a near exact copy of the Bancroft….although label name was different) ) who made an equally good reproduction for a short while and I ended up with one of his. He was selling on ebay for a short time. Mine is in storage as I build a home but I do did a review of it on the vintage jackets.org site. There aren't many high quality makers of the crusher cap currently in business as I understand it. You will get a lot of information on vintageleatherjackets.org if you do some searches there. Good luck. Kevin -

hello, I think this is a repo. I have an original and this does not look right. -

hello, It appears to be a 'Camel Corps' bell set up by Jefferson Davis in the 1850's for use out west in the deserts. I am not weighing in on authenticity as these have been reproduced and are really close to originals. Regardless, I am aware there was 'new old stock' still available during the Civil War and were issued to cavalry men on occasion. This may explain it turning up on the east coast. I have a non-dug one in my collection. Neat find. cheers!
