Interesting I was under the impression that the P-14's stayed 303 and that the P-17's started out as 30-06.  I've got a lend-lease return Eddystone P-17 with the red paint stencil of 30-06 painted on the fore end.  The outside of the gun shows use, the barrel and chamber are pristine.  Probably the home guard practiced drill with these and may not have shot them much if at all.

I am not quibbling, but the Indian head motif used on the CAA-WTS wing was probably derived from James Earle Frasier's indian head nickel (minted from 1913-1938).  Thus, the Indian head motif would have been familiar to Americans for a long time (clearly predating WWI).  The FAA and its use of the Wright flyer was a motif that would have been much later (circa 1926).  James Frasier was a well-known and prolific sculptor who often used Western themes (he was active from the 1890s well into the 40s). He was also commissioned to produce and design statues, coins, and medals.   Western themes as an "American ideal" were also very popular, especially during the 30's and 40's.  I suspect that the Indian head CAA-WTS pattern would have been very popular--thus its commonality in the collecting world (is "commonality" even a word?, lol).   But I also suspect that the 2 years between 1942 (the start of the CAA-WTS) and 1944 (when the program effectively ended), it is unlikely that there was a linear adoption of wings (first one then another).  Instead, I sense that these two patterns may have been made concurrently, with one being vastly more popular (the Indian head motif).  I wonder if the Wright Flyer wings were ever worn or ever made available for sale?  To my knowledge, I have not seen an autobiographical Wright Flyer wing, or photos where it is clearly being worn, but have seen "tons" of attributed Indian head wings.  That isn't proof, of course, but it does raise other questions. For example, it is possible to find Indian head CAA-WTS wings in the effects of early WTS instructors (those guys who would have been the first to get the wings). But if the Wright flyer wings were first... wouldn't you find them in the effects of those initial instructors as well?  Hmmmm????   Maybe Heath has some solid evidence from his collection of dies?  But I do wonder if we are assuming "first pattern (early)" vs "second pattern (late)" just based on relative scarcity rather than real time lines?  Ok, ok... now I sense I have drifted into the realm of a good quibble!  LOL.  Still, I would probably kill my dog to get my hands on of the Wright Flyer versions.     P

I appreciate the information and can anyone add any other info, such as time period or if it is even US?   Thanks!

Here's another Shooting jacket I saw on FB Mkt. I wouldn't mind getting it, but the $300 price tag is a bit high.

You should post this one over on the thread I started: US Cold War Shooting patches ... SHOW THEM!, it would also be a good addition.

Seen today in Rosmalen, a village just outside of ‘s Hertogenbosch in The Netherlands… Marston matting (PSP plates) used as gerden fence… Not that common a sight there…
