When this bayonet style was first issued in the US Army in 1986, it was such an improvement over the M7.  Many soldiers who had opted to carry big fixed blade Combat knives stoped taking them to the field as this was a duel purpose compromise.  For use in the military, in a truck, or as a hiking knife, to still be the current issued bayonet for almost 40 years says a lot about them.  

I agree with aerialbridge. I collect by type. I especially like prototypes, pre production samples and unnumbered medals from the original dies.   John and Allen did a tremendous job on the SA book. Their research on pages 20-27 seems to explain this medal as a scarce Tiffany piece that shows a cracked reverse die, made during the Till production .   The lettering shows that the medal has the 1b second reverse after the first die broke. It is unnamed, has no ship name, and no Tiffany hallmark, which is correct for medals made using the original dies for Paul Till in 1969. The brooch appears to be the Paul Till type, but is not hallmarked like the Till medals. The rings are curious as they are thicker like the original medals, the Till rings are obviously thinner. There is a die crack almost identical to that shown on pg 22; "from the letter "V" through the sailors forehead and across the legs of the "R", and the "medal lacks the Tiffany hallmark on the rim and brooch which would indicate that it was intended to be scrapped. Two of these cracked Paul Till medals are known to exist."  pg 27   Rather than a substitute for an issue piece, this is a Tiffany produced variation.    

Hello, This Bronze Star, recently acquired, came from a house cleanout.  The current owners of the house said they had no idea know who it belonged to. My question is, has any one of my more learned Forum members seen engraving like this?  Also just initials? Was this common?  Thanks for any input.

When I was in the Air Force and in a non flying position we were issued that bag and we called it a “mobility bag.” Anyone who subject to mobilization was issued one, regardless of flying status.
