These were used by Michigan State Troops during WWII Peter. Very difficult to find info on them as Google searches get muddied with the State Police, and MSU... We have some of their items and unit histories at the museum, and somewhere we have a photo of these helmets in use by them.  Scott

I think just a "hard hat" in an OD color. With an associated history of its use, it could've been worn by anyone and anywhere a hard hat was needed.

#7.  Fri Jun 6-2025.  Sorry - I erred.  That is going to happen all too frequently.  I mis-wrote; the "tall " building is in fact the Y M C A. on lower Broadway.  And, Yes, it really is a ferris wheel atop another building.  I do not actually remember ever seeing it.  It was likely dismantled shortly after the war.  Those of you who know cars can probably date the picture.  Let us all know if you are able.  Thank you, Donna

They're out there, but very rare because they were inferior to leather in terms of durability and comfort.  I've owned two maybe three.  They were usually issued with low pressure liners but you sometimes see them on 3rd pattern Hawleys.  One I owned was in an early high pressure liner.

      # 6 <?>. .Fri. Jun 6-2025   Hi.  Truth be told.....  When we opened up all the boxes, I chanced to meet 2 fellows - how, I no longer remember - who helped us sort.  At the time, I did not know to distinguish insignias - i.e.  an EGA as Marine / Anchor etc...  Dreadful !  Over the years y'all helped me learn so much  - and importantly acquire a real appreciation for  the treasure our parents left us.  I  remember when I unpacked the Cape Gloucester tabs - well, that's is a boring looking thing.  Certainly Not worth anything.  ahhhh - that was a really Really long time ago.     Speaking of "appreciation,"  I heard on NPR this morning that the LOOPHOLE closed by Biden is now being re-opened, enabling for-profit "universities" to rip off young Vets with Expensive and useless "degrees" & certificates and draining off all their GI education benefits.  What do y'all think of That ?  {{ Rather reminiscent of Trump University - which ultimately forced him to repay/refund  $ 25 Million.}} Donna
