M1 Helmet with national flag

It looks like the stars are staggered which indicates to me that it’s a 50 star flag.

 

If my assumption is correct the flag was applied after 1959.

the flag is a " art deco " or official in the army

Your steel helmet has been made by Mc Cord Co .

Helmets from Steel lot number 722A, have been produced  early November,1943.

Nice fixed bales M1 helmet...with correct straps & cast copper buckles ( not illustrated).

I would agree with the flag being 50 stars.

You don’t have to count them, you just have to know the star pattern.

 

Forty eight stars from WW2 and 50 stars from after 1959 have different patterns.
