mvmhm Posted November 11, 2023 Share #1 Posted November 11, 2023 A woman brought in her father's 20th Armored Division Ike jacket, as well as some of her Grandmother's ANC items. She sent some items to the women's memorial at Arlington, and some to the school of nursing where her mother trained. Still, there's some neat items here. The one photo is of her and her husband, who married at the end of the war. The parade picture I'm not sure about - is it a homecoming or going overseas? I pondered that it might be homecoming with the low turn out due to the spread of the Spanish Flu. There's several documented instances of towns holding a welcome home parade which was followed by spread of the flu. Mark sends

mvmhm Posted November 11, 2023 Author Share #4 Posted November 11, 2023 ...and some more photos....the brown folder has two large and two small photos of nurses...unfortunately, most of the photos are unidentified. BUT, they do show the collar insignias...also, note one of the men is wearing the uniform with a stand and fall collar.
mvmhm Posted November 11, 2023 Author Share #5 Posted November 11, 2023 This is the best part...her WWI Victory Medal and Canton, OH Service Medal....
mvmhm Posted November 11, 2023 Author Share #6 Posted November 11, 2023 Another nice item is this dainty ID bracelet she got before heading overseas, which has her (then) hometown on the reverse.....
mvmhm Posted November 11, 2023 Author Share #7 Posted November 11, 2023 ..and finally, her collar insignia. Unfortunately there's only on of the bright metal with enameled ANC initials. And so it goes. Mark sends
atb Posted November 13, 2023 Share #8 Posted November 13, 2023 "Stand and Fall" collar. That's his flannel shirt collar being worn over the standing collar of the coat. A fairly common practice to lessen chafing around the neck.
Allan H. Posted November 14, 2023 Share #9 Posted November 14, 2023 This is an AMAZING time capsule that you've become the caretaker of. The photos are extraordinary! Thanks a million for taking the time to post these. Allan
manayunkman Posted November 14, 2023 Share #10 Posted November 14, 2023 Mark congratulations on this amazing group with such vivid photos. Did you post the 20th Armored Ike?
mvmhm Posted November 15, 2023 Author Share #11 Posted November 15, 2023 No I didn't post the Ike...she didn't have the collar disks or ribbons so it doesn't look too sexy at the moment. Plus, they said he was in the 9th Armored Battalion, which was part of the 20th AD....but his tour map is for the 13th Armored...but there's no shadow to show that he ever sewed a combat patch on. I need to flesh out those discrepancies. Mark sends
