robinb Posted July 13, 2019 #1 Posted July 13, 2019 It has 2 zippers starting at the top and running down to both bottom corners. Nothing inside. USAAF stencil on both sides and one small square ink stamped inspectors mark. Clearly the parachute harness goes under the small straps, and there are 4 loops, one in each corner, for the seat cushion. Anyone have any information about it?
WWII Parachutist Posted July 18, 2019 #2 Posted July 18, 2019 Do you have a picture of the square inspection stamp? At the very least, that might indicate who made it. How deep is it? Looks like a few inches?
robinb Posted July 18, 2019 Author #3 Posted July 18, 2019 The inspection stamp is illegible. And you're right that it's about 3 inches deep.
pararaftanr2 Posted July 18, 2019 #4 Posted July 18, 2019 I'd speculate it may have been made to carry an arctic sleeping bag for cold weather survival. It looks like the buckle and strap would allow you to secure it after rolling it up and the attached straps are for carrying?
phantomfixer Posted July 18, 2019 #5 Posted July 18, 2019 would agree for sure to be used as a back pack after the jump...as to what went inside.. sleeping bag is as good as anything, that and a survival kit... possible that it was locally manufactured based on units requirements?
