David Minton Posted October 7, 2015 Share #1 Posted October 7, 2015 Sorry if this is common knowledge, but what hats did WAVES Chief Petty Officers wear during WWII? I understand later in the war they were authorized first the men's garrison cap (with small CPO badge) and latter the "banana" women's garrison cap. Besides that, did they wear the WAVES enlisted combination cover, or did they wear the WAVES officer combination cover with a different badge?
29navy Posted October 7, 2015 Share #2 Posted October 7, 2015 According to "Dressed for Duty", WAVE CPOs wore the officers combination hat. Charlie ,
David Minton Posted October 7, 2015 Author Share #3 Posted October 7, 2015 According to "Dressed for Duty", WAVE CPOs wore the officers combination hat. Charlie Thanks for the quick reply. How would a CPO wear the officer combination cover: With officers cap badge With CPO cap badge pined to cap (similar to male WWII era CPO combination cover) With CPO cap badge pined to cap band (with an extension, similar to current CPO combination cover)
29navy Posted October 7, 2015 Share #4 Posted October 7, 2015 CPO badge directly on the hat. Reference, Page 11: https://www.uscg.mil/history/docs/uniforms/1943_UniformsWomen.pdf Charlie ,
cutiger83 Posted October 7, 2015 Share #5 Posted October 7, 2015 The Blitzkrieg website is a great reference: http://www.blitzkriegbaby.de/homepage.htm Chief Petty Officers (CPOs) had a special cap device which consisted of a fouled anchor in gold color metal with the letters USN in silver color metal superimposed. A miniature version of this cap device was worn on the left front of the garrison cap.
