bayonetman Posted April 30, 2014 Share #7 Posted April 30, 2014 Very nice pre-March 1945 manufacture. The latch retaining pins began to be staked in place during February 1945.

tsellati Posted May 3, 2014 Share #13 Posted May 3, 2014 Very nice pre-March 1945 manufacture. The latch retaining pins began to be staked in place during February 1945. Here is the flat surface of my bayonet's pommel - Am I correct in thinking this is what you mean by the retaining pins being staked in place? If so, does this date my bayonet's manufacture to Feb. 1945 or later? Thanks for the education. Tim
bayonetman Posted May 3, 2014 Share #14 Posted May 3, 2014 Yes, this does show the staked latch retaining pins. Prior to February 1945 the pins were meant to be removable so damaged latches could be replaced, but as the pins sometimes loosened in service it was finally decided to stake them in place. sundance Posted May 4, 2014 Share #16 Posted May 4, 2014 Very nice. I was excited to find an M4 Camillus at a gun show years ago only to find out later that it was one of the "re-issue" ones they built in the '80's or '90's. At least it was Camillus built.
