Page-Hendryx Posted July 6, 2012 #31 Posted July 6, 2012 A rare, authentic collection of 282 Vietnam era Zippo lighters went on the auction block June 21st at Cowan’s Auctions in Cincinnati. The collection belongs to artist Bradford Edwards, whose collection was showcased in the book Vietnam Zippos: American Soldiers’ Engravings and Stories 1965-1973 (Sherry Buchanan, University of Chicago Press, 2010). Some of you may remember the collection, which received media attention by the New York Times, NPR, and others. The lighter collection had a starting price of $30,000 to $50,000 and was included in the book. Considering the years of search Mr. Bradford spent in Vietnam sourcing and assembling the collection, the starting price seems realistic. Catfishcraig Posted May 31, 2023 #34 Posted May 31, 2023 Adding to this old topic. Does anyone know what other manufacturers made a similar lighter to the Zippo “Black Crackle”? I’ve seen Park Sherman, Century, Zephyr, Berkeley, and Jan. Thanks
Catfishcraig Posted August 30, 2023 #36 Posted August 30, 2023 My two WWII Zippos. Three barrel on the left and a four barrel on the right.
collectsmedals Posted September 25, 2023 #38 Posted September 25, 2023 Here is one I purchased new in 1979 while stationed aboard the U.S.S. Nimitz.
GAZOO Posted September 25, 2023 #39 Posted September 25, 2023 I forgot to include the supporting photos But from the best of my research this all looks to fit, 1968 date code, the insert I do believe to be period as well :)
