TBMflyer Posted July 12, 2007 Share #10 Posted July 12, 2007 Here's a Zippo that came with a huge VN officers grouping. He was an AC-119 gunship pilot with the only USAF Reserve squadron to be called to active duty and sent overseas. Front and back, enjoy, Mark. ItemCo16527 Posted April 12, 2009 Share #12 Posted April 12, 2009 I bought this lighter aboard the USS Springfield (SSN-761), a Los Angeles-class fast attack sub, around 10 years ago. Notice it's serial numbered 76 of 761. Sorry for the bad photo, but this was the best of the ones that I took. I'm a lousy photographer
Zippo Grunt Posted April 12, 2009 Share #13 Posted April 12, 2009 Just to let you know, you say the lighter is "serial numbered 76 of 761" thats not right. Its showing a Limited Edition Number. You have Number 76 of only 761 made. Zippo do customer/service orders for Limited Editions the smallest number you can have made is 50. After that you can have any number you wish. Why the USS Springfield picked 761 i don't know. But only 761 made worldwide is good. Thanks for showing

Mitch Posted April 20, 2009 Share #18 Posted April 20, 2009 I'm posting my favorite zippo first. It is from Commander Amphibious Group Two and was presented by the commander to pilots ( and others I would suspect) that were involved in the 1975 Evacuation of Saigon. I sacnned and took pictures of it and they all suck, so bear with the picture . The lighter is the smaller framed zippo . It has some scratches but not like what shows up. Nam67 Posted May 17, 2009 Share #24 Posted May 17, 2009 I do have a 'Vietnam' Zippo, but can't get to it right now to get a photo. The first Zippo I'm showing is one I've had for a number of years now; the crest is that of my old Corps and is engraved whereas a lot nowdays seem to have the crest soldered on. The colouring has virtually all gone from the crest, and there are a lot of scratches on the bodywork. I've stopped using it now and it has been replaced by a modern Zippo which I've had engraved. I know you want period pieces but I've included it here just to show it off. I copied a cartoon of Snoopy with a surfboard and then included the famous phrase from 'Apocolypse Now'.....'Charlie Don't Surf!' There is a firm over here in the UK that will engrave virtually any design you send them and for a reasonable price. The reason I've had Robert's name etc put on this Zippo is simple; the date he disappeared during a firefight was the date I was born. He, along with Arthur Fisher (a Vietnam KIA buried in a cemetery in London, UK, near to my wife's Nan and brother grave) are the reasons why I've become interested in the Vietnam War.
