Calvin Hall Posted December 3, 2019 #1 Posted December 3, 2019 Folks, It has been a while since I have found anything post-worthy, but I am certainly pleased with this recent acquisition. Grouping includes the following: Numerous ribbon bars Wings Dogtags Document for the Distinguished Flying Cross Helldiver art Period photo of the pilot in plane Photo from 1960s showing ribbons My initial quick Google search didn't provide any info. any with research would be greatly appreciated! Calvin
sigsaye Posted December 3, 2019 #3 Posted December 3, 2019 Well, in looking at the photo, in 1960, he was a Commander, USN. So, he stayed in the Navy after the war. Remember, EVERYONE who entered the US Military after 1, October, 1942 was put into the Reserves. Start looking with him as a Commander, USN.
P-40Warhawk Posted December 4, 2019 #5 Posted December 4, 2019 His entry date was June 9, 1938. https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/37696214/john-d_-hughes
Jim MacDonald Posted December 5, 2019 #7 Posted December 5, 2019 Hughes was a TBM Avenger pilot with VT-81 flying off the Wasp in Jan 45. The plane in the photo of him in the cockpit is an Avenger. Mac

manayunkman Posted December 5, 2019 #9 Posted December 5, 2019 Great find. Any other medals? I see one in the box.
KRIS FORD Posted December 5, 2019 #10 Posted December 5, 2019 The notched tag could be 1953ish..as my gramps' (USN, enliisted) tag is exact same format..
