robinb Posted January 6, 2018 Share #1 Posted January 6, 2018 I've read that it was common to use cut up pieces of gas mask hose to deaden the sound of dog tags rattling. Here's an original example of it being done.

Dogsbody Posted January 9, 2018 Share #4 Posted January 9, 2018 Hello, here are two examples from my dog tag collection. The one on the left has lost one of its protectors as they've become hard and brittle. Maybe a silly question but in order to attach the hose pieces the soldier would have to destroy his gas mask hose. Wouldn't this constitute destruction of government property? BEAST Posted January 9, 2018 Share #5 Posted January 9, 2018 My Dad used a gas mask hose as a silencer on his tags. I remember seeing them as a kid, but unfortunately they disappeared a long time ago.
268th C.A. Posted January 10, 2018 Share #6 Posted January 10, 2018 Gas mask? My Dad said he threw his away as soon as he landed on Guadalcanal. Kind of getting off the subject, But destruction of Govt property...thought it was a funny story.
