Hi everyone, I have a quick question about these shoulder boards. Is there anything particular rare about them? The reason I ask is because I put them on ebay the other day and within a couple of hours I had a guy message me and offer me, believe it or not $300.00 for them. Although I am not accustom to dealing outside of ebay this offer is tempting.

If those real they are worth a whole lot more than $300!

How are the EGA's attached?

They are real and are becoming scarce based off the age. They are worth more than $300. I say let 'em run and see what surprise may come.

Yeah that is exactly what I was thinking... Thanks for the info though

If Major Mike says they're real, that's a good endorsement.

The right folks have already found them ;)

I'll say right now there is 3 days and 1 hour left and there are 20 people watching the auction

So where did you find these?

Believe it or not I picked them up at the flea market. I was in the right place at the right time for a change. w00t.gif

I don't even collect USMC items and I've got to say those are a beautiful pair of boards, and it sounds like a nice turn around too. The one time I was at the right place at the right time in a flea market I got a Puma straight razor for $20 and sold it for $280. Good luck with your sale.

So which forum member is going to be the winning bidder :) and how much will they go for, $1,000??

For those who can't look at ebay (some systems at work block it) here's what we're talking about:

I have never seen a pair of these for sale but if they are 1892 I'd be very surprised if they went for under $1K

I've seen quite a few of these pass thru ebay in the last couple of years, and yes, they were good originals. All of the matching pairs I've seen sold for $300.00-$600.00. The last pair attached to the original tunic sold for around $750.00. If these sell for over 1K...

That low huh? Is this this the one part of the EGA market that has not gone crazy?

These 1892 Shoulder Boards were sold as surplus by Stokes-Kirk, Phila in the 1960s and maybe by Bannerman as well.. They are often found in mis-matched pairs with the left emblem/board only. The right or opposite emblem/board is very scarce. These shoulder boards are uncommon today but are not "rare". This is a very nice matching set in excellent condition. They should do very well but I'll be surprised if they reach $1,000. But as we all know on EBay anything is possible. I may have to eat my words!

Well... I'm not sure about that my friend... especially with ebay. I picked up three of the left side boards for well under $100.00 apiece no more than 18 months ago. The right side seems to be alot harder to find, and you will pay at least three times more. It wasn't that long ago when you could buy a nice matching pair of these for $300.00-$400.00. These are nice... we'll see.

I'm with Bobgee. $1000 is way out there, these pop up and are not that hard to find. I sold a dead mint set for about $400 eight months ago. Could barely get anyone to bid. With the soft market, I'd say that's what these are worth. These have never fetched the $800-1000 range that I have ever seen.

Interesting - so when is this soft market going to cough up an enlisted droop wing dress cover piece :)

That was $400 for the EGA's and shoulderboards?

Well as much as I hate to admit it (especially since I am the one selling them) I dont think the shoulderboards will go for that much either. Considering what I paid for them I will be VERY happy with any amount when sold. Then I will be able to buy more patches!!!

BTY I would tell you guys what I paid for them but I wouldnt want to see grown men cry!!! :P

So that was $300+ with one of the EGA's facing the wrong way....

There was a period photo shown awhile back with an enlisted Marine wearing shoulderboards with the EGA's facing in the same direction.
